WETL began broadcasting to the classrooms and homes of South Bend and it's vicinity on November 18, 1958, in the building that now houses Tippecanoe Place restaurant. WETL began with just 250 watts of power

During February of 1970, WETL increased its power from 290 watts to 1300 watts, and then again in 1983 to 3000 watts of stereo power which we operate with to this day. The station was moved to the school administration building at Bronson and Main streets

In 2005, WETL Studios moved from the old administration building on Main St. to it's new home at Riley High School and became Mix 91.7.

In August 2007, WETL began 24-hour, 7 days a week broadcasting.

In the Summer of 2013, WETL purchased new computer automation equipment which was provided by Wide Orbit of San Francisco, allowing students to learn on the latest state of the art equipment.

On December 26th, 2018, WETL  celebrated its 60th anniversary by launching its new website which was also the birth of the station’s online streaming service. The new website features audio archives and photos from past shows. WETL can be reached on any FM radio within a 50-mile radius of South Bend. WETL is 91.7 MHz on the radio dial or online at wetlradio.org
